CONNECT WITH CANDICE

A bit about me

After graduating from Marquette University and working in the marketing department of a hospital, I landed a job in the big city of Chicago. After 12 years working my way up to director at a public relations agency, we were (you guessed it) bought out by an international agency and I was laid off. A client – the Italian Trade Commission – asked me to work with them independently and I never turned back. It’s now 23 years later and we have a team of communications professionals who partner with all different organizations to elevate their brands, build awareness around important issues and enhance their reputations.

What I’m passionate about at work

Driving change. I believe strategic communication has the power to influence behavior and create meaningful impact.

A favorite memory at CS-Effect

There are so many—and I love learning about a wide range of issues that always make for great cocktail party conversation. One highlight was helping launch NorthShore’s Center for Brain Health. We led an event for the new Center, Mind Matters, featuring Dr. Lisa Genova, New York Times bestselling author of Still Alice.

I’m also especially proud of the integrated campaign we launched during the pandemic to position occupational health professionals as experts on PPE and safely bringing employees back to work. The award-winning campaign earned national media coverage in The Wall Street Journal, CNN, USA Today, and hundreds of other outlets.

My favorite things to do outside of work

I stay active with pickleball and have recently joined the Mahjong craze. I love cooking Asian food, and my teenage daughter keeps me on my toes as we navigate the college visit phase. I’m happiest near the water and enjoy sailing, though my hopes of sharing that passion with my daughter were quickly dashed when onboard spiders scared her off.

A quote that inspires me

"There is no need for temples, no need for complicated philosophies. My brain and my heart are my temples; my philosophy is kindness."– Dalai Lama
