A bit about me

From the moment I read Charlotte’s Web as a kid—and then rewrote it starring me—I knew storytelling was in my bones. That love for narrative led me to a career in journalism, where I reported the news from the anchor desk and out in the field. But when I lost my mom to breast cancer far too young, my purpose shifted. I left the newsroom and joined the American Cancer Society, where I used my voice to drive awareness, action, and hope. One of my most meaningful projects was working on the coalition that helped make Chicago workplaces smoke-free.

Since then, I’ve spent nearly two decades blending journalism instincts with strategic communications—leading media relations, internal campaigns, and brand storytelling for mission-driven organizations. Whether I’m building trust through thoughtful messaging or sparking connection through a compelling headline, I believe in the power of words to move people—and missions—forward.

What I’m passionate about at work

There’s nothing more fulfilling than uncovering a powerful patient or caregiver story—and then watching that story take flight. I love weaving those authentic voices into integrated marketing campaigns, landing meaningful media coverage, and amplifying the message across platforms. When the right story sparks real connection and inspires action, that’s when the magic happens. For me, it’s more than visibility—it’s about impact.

A Favorite Professional Moment

One moment that’s always stayed with me was securing a column in the Chicago Tribune about the importance of colonoscopy screenings—specifically for African American communities—at a time when the topic was often avoided. It wasn’t just about earned media; it was about breaking silence, raising awareness, and helping people feel seen. Being part of that kind of impact reminds me why I do what I do.

A Favorite CS Effect Moment

Honestly? Every day I work with the CS Effect team feels like a favorite. Whether we’re developing messaging that makes an impact or brainstorming ways to elevate a client’s story, there’s a shared passion and purpose that makes the work feel meaningful. Being surrounded by smart, supportive, mission-driven people who bring their best—and a great sense of humor—every day? That’s the kind of team I’m proud to be part of.

My favorite things to do outside of work

When I’m not crafting campaigns or chasing deadlines, I’m happiest outside—walking nature trails, soaking up lake breezes, or spending time with my family and my beloved rescue pup, Walter.

I run a pet-sitting and dog-walking side business, which lets me spend my days with wagging tails and furry sidekicks. I also love traveling with family and friends—whether it’s a beach weekend or a new city to explore, I’m always up for a little adventure, especially if there’s laughter and great company involved. One of my greatest joys is cheering on my niece and nephew at their competitive games—both amazing athletes, and even better humans. Add in some live music or a quiet moment with a book, and that’s my version of joy.

A quote that inspires me

“Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
